After managing to avoid many of the nasty bugs that has been going around for the last couple of months Emily finally succumbed to a tummy bug yesterday. As hubby was away in Palmerston North overnight and I also have a 8 week old to look after this was not such good timing on Emily's part. Never mind these things happen.
The day began with a 6.30am wake up call from Emily, who had got herself up out of bed and was standing in the kitchen crying for Mummy. I hurl myself out of bed and zip out of my room as fast as I could with the intent to tell her to shhhhh so as to not wake the baby. I open my mouth and before I could utter any sound Emily's mouth also opens and she vomits all over the kitchen floor. Nice! I sprint to the plastic cupboard and pull out the first bowl I lay my hands on and thrust it under her chin in time to catch the next wave. After Emily gives me the all clear signal, I scoop her up and gently deposit her on the couch with a clean bowl, blanket and drink of water while I get the fun task of cleaning up the mess. After 10 minutes and several muttered promises of what hubby will have to do to make up for not being here to help, the kitchen is clean again and I can start to wake up instead of functioning on autopilot. Coffee that's what I need and lots of it, oh yeah I'm breastfeeding can only have two cups a day. Damn it this will be a looooong day!
Emily spends the morning snuggled on the couch watching many children's movies, then round two hits. As I sit feeding the baby, I spy out the corner of my eye Emily sit bolt upright and go pale. I uncermoniously dump (gently) the baby in the rocker and lunge for the bowl just getting there in time. Emily hates the bowl and a struggle ensues with her trying to push the bowl away and me trying to make sure each wave of vomit makes it into the bowl. When the retching subsides again my polite daughter turns to me and says "thank you Mummy". Naw even when she's ill she still has nice manners. It was at this point that I realise that in my haste to get to Emily and the bowl I had not managed to put my breast away and was on complete display. Thank goodness no one decided to pop in at that moment to visit!
The third and final wave occured about 20 minutes after I had risked allowing her to have a lemonade popsicle. We hadn't had any more vomiting for about 5 hours so I decided it was safe enough to try and get something in her wee tummy other than water. Meh wrong idea! As my wee girl sat cuddled into me the next wave hits without warning. Emily manages to get it all over her pjs, all over my trackies and down the couch with one single retch, pretty impressive in my opinion! I scoop her up and lurch over to the bowl (which I had stupidly left on the coffee table far from where we were sitting) and manage to catch the next retch. Again we have a silent battle with the bowl. When it was over I start to peel the pjs off my pale, trembling wee girl, joking with her about how she had managed to get it all over Mummy too. I thought this would lighten the mood and help her cheer up a bit but no, it had the opposite effect in which she starts to sob. I cuddle her to me thinking she was crying because she wasn't feeling well when I hear her say in a quiet voice "I sorry Mummy", I tell her it was okay and she has nothing to be sorry about but she says "I sorry I throwed up on your pants". I wish a hole would open up and swallow me, I feel awful how could I make my wee girl feel guilty about being sick on me! I finally convince her I wasn't upset and she allows me to get her into some new pjs and snuggle her back on the couch.
When bed time rolls around I am so knackered and on edge I thank the stars Emily goes down easily. Mike owes me big time!!

Favourite Things
Emily goes through periods of obssession with certain things. These items become her favourite things and either go EVERWHERE with us or are constantly being asked for. Generally these periods of obssession are short and sweet but sometimes they can span several months until something new and exciting comes along to take it's place in her affections.
The current 'favourite things' are:
#1 Owl
This is a brightly coloured and patterned soft toy owl. Owl goes everywhere with us and mst be in bed with Miss Moo every night. Owl is so well loved that He has already had sugery twice to keep him in prime condition. Owl stole Emily's love away from 'Cat' (a pink lemur soft toy) a few months ago and for now seems safe from replacement in the near future.
#2 Dora Pjs
Emily like's Dora the Explorer so Mummy got suckered into buying Emily a pair of Dora Pjs. These Pjs will often be worn for many nights in a row with me frantically trying to wash and dry them during the day. And some days it is nigh on impossible to get her out of her Dora Pjs and into clothes. It is quite a common occurance to see Emily head off to the supermarket wearing her Dora Pjs, Dora gumboots (Grandy bought the gumboots not Me) and carting her Dora Dolly (a gift from her Aunt and Uncle) under her arm because Daddy couldn't convince her to get dressed first.
3 The Winnie the Pooh Movie
we went through a period of two weeks where Miss Moo would watch The Winnie the Pooh movie (Pooh's Heffalump Movie) at least three times a day. It got to the point where I could recite the movie verbatum and would find myself gently singing the songs while feeding the baby in the middle of the night. Currently we are down to only having to watch it once a day, thank goodness.
4 The Rainbow Top
this is a poypropelyne thermal top that has rainbow coloured stripes and two different coloured sleeve and is currently the bane of my existance. It is a hand me down top and is great for her to wear under her clothes to keep her warm except that Miss Moo likes to wear it over her clothes so she can see the rainbow. This isn't a problem when we are staying home but Emily's deedication to her Rainbow Top is total and there is always a major battle to get her into 'going out clothes'. Maybe the Rainbow top will accidently somehow dissapear very soon...
5 Spotty Shoes
Recently Emily's Grandparents came to stay and they took her shopping at Pumpkin Patch here she found a pair of red canvas shooes with white polka dots. These shoes are very sweet and go with most of her outfits, so what's the problem? Well it is winter still and we live on a farm that is one big mud puddle, not suitable for little red canvas shoes. does that stop Millie from wanting to wear them? NO. It is battle after battle to convince her to take off her spotty shoes and put on gumboots. Emily has taken to wearing her spotty shoes around the house instead of her slippers and if I'm not vigilant she will dart out any open door still wearing them and head straight for the puddles.
6 Mummy's iPad
My darling husband treated me with an iPad for Mother's day, except now it seems more like Emily's iPad than mine. It is loaded with so many kids games and movie that there is barely any room left on it for my apps. Emily is only two and a half and she uses the iPad better than I do lol. I will be sitting on the couch with my iPad resting on my knee, doing a bit of facebook interaction and next thing Miss Moo has waltzed over, pushed the 'end' button, taken it out of my hands and will be walking off with it! I can't believe I am about to type this next sentance.... Emily even has her own 32g iPod touch to use (courtesy of her Grandparents) so she can stop stealing my toy but it hasn't worked. So if she uses mine then can I use hers? No it's mine! she tells me before taking it back.
So those are Miss Moo's favourite things for the time being, I'm sure they will have changed in the next few weeks although a couple of them I'm sure will remain the same like the ipad lol

Shoe Fetish
I have always suspected that my daughter may have a shoe fetish and today she confirmed my suspicions.
Miss Millie has always had a thing for shoes. As a small baby she would crawl over to her Dad's shoes and put things in them, play with the laces or even wear them on her hands. As she's gotten older her attraction to shoes has deepened. It is common to find Millie sitting in her room playing and talking with her shoes or running around wearing my shoes. Each morning she chooses which pair of gumboots (she has three pairs) she wishes to wear for the day and will even pick out my footwear for me too. If we go to someone else's house she will often find their shoes and play with them instead of the toys, lining them up in neat little rows.
Today we decided to go into Napier for the afternoon as a family. Emily had spent the morning out on the farm with Daddy so after a quick change into 'town' clothes, Emily choose her 'town' footwear.... a cute pair of peach coloured dress shoes. After much pushing and shoving it became apparent she has outgrown these shoes. "Never mind honey we will get you some new ones today" I tell my distraught toddler. Finally after some coxing we get her into another pair of shoes and off we go.
After we had wandered through a couple of stores we head to the Number 1 Shoe Warehouse to find some shoes for Miss Millie. Upon entering the store Millie's face lights up, her eyes go wide and she starts demanding Daddy put her down. Miss Millie is in Heaven!!
She trawls the isles of shoes getting more and more excited, pulling whichever shoes take her fancy off the shelf whether they would fit her or not. Poor Daddy has to follow her, picking up the mess while Mummy looks for some new summer sandals. After much hunting Mummy doesn't find anything suitable in Millie's size. So we tackle our daughter, throw her over her Daddy's shoulder (she is quite upset at having to leave all these shoes behind) and head off to another store.
We find the Warehouse. Again Millie's face lights up and a huge grin spreads across her face when we reach the shoe department. "Shoes!" she squeals and off she runs. With a resigned sigh her Daddy follows her, leaving me to search for some new shoes. Millie finds the gumboot section and promptly starts pulling them off the shelf and demanding Daddy put them on her. Meanwhile I find two pairs of sandals that look promising and go searching for my daughter, who is more than happy to try these shoes on. The first pair are her favourite, "Shoes!" she says and runs off with only one sandal on, dragging the second sandal behind her. I guess Millie has made her decision. Do you think I could get them off her again to take them to the check out? NO! So we manage to hold her down long enough to put the other sandal on and break the connecting string so she doesn't fall on her face. At the checkout we have to hold her up for the check-out chick to scan the barcodes still hanging from each shoe, I guess it must be a common occurrence as the check-out chick didn't even bat an eye.
We now have one happy wee toddler proudly showing off her new sandals to whom ever she can capture the attention of.

The Dreaded Swing
Miss Millie Moo's day isn't complete without visiting each of the three swings we have on the property. Emily delights in the feeling of swooshing through the air so much that she could quite happily spend hours on the swing.
A typical swinging day starts in the morning where Miss Moo selects which pair of gumboots she wishes to wear and brings them to you to put on her. Once her footwear is on she heads straight to the door and demands we go "Swing" whether you are ready to go out or not.
The first swing to be visited is the baby swing hanging from the large acacia tree in the basin. She heads straight for this swing getting more and more excited the closer we get to it. Once she is safely bucked into the swing, her feet kicking wildly, I pull it back as high as I can and let go. "WEEEEEEEEEE!!" she giggles with such delight, her face has the biggest grin on it and her feet flail madly about.
Half an hour later when I am so incredibly bored and my arms feel like they are about to drop off, she is still crying "WEEEEEE!" with every swing. "Two more minutes" I tell her...... I stop the swing and the battle ensues to get her out of it. She clings to the ropes and locks her legs into a bent position making it quite impossible to pull her up and out, all the while screaming in anguish. After a mighty struggle I am the victor and head home again with my squirming, sobbing wee girl thrown over my shoulder.
Our swinging day continues after lunch... again gumboots are selected and Millie heads off to the playground where swings #2 and #3 reside. She heads straight for the baby swing hanging beside the sandpit, "Swing!" she commands excitedly. With a great sigh of patience I help her into the swing, pull it back and let go, "WEEEEEEEE!". This time I don't last half and hour, "Two more minutes" I tell her after maybe 15 minutes of swinging. I stop the swing and another battle ensues. After much screaming and kicking I get her out of the swing and place her on the ground where she stomps away grumpily........ to swing #3!
Swing #3 is the big kids swing (meaning it has no back and no restraints) which hangs quite inconveniently next to swing #2. Millie reaches this swing and promptly starts trying to climb onto it. "No more swinging" I tell my daughter, but do you think she listens? No. I watch Millie doing her very best to get up onto this swing and can't help admiring her determination. Slowly my will power crumbles and with a great sigh I head over and help her clamber up on the big kids swing. She sits there with a straight back, holding tightly to the ropes and grinning cheekily with her success. I crouch down and very gently give her the tiniest pushes, ready to catch her the minute she starts to wobble.
She doesn't seem to enjoy this swing as much as the other two, I guess as she can't go as high so only lasts for a few minutes before deciding she wants down. She does this by suddenly letting go and launching herself at me.
Millie is now a happy wee girl, she has had her three swings and is quite content to head home without any drama.
On our way home Millie spots her favourite person. She takes off towards him like a rocket, running as fast as her little legs can carry her. Her Grampy sweeps her up into his arms and Millie looks him in the eye and says "Swing!" and off they trot for swing #1.....

Introduction
I have started this blog so that family and friends can read all about the antics of Miss Millie Moo.
First let me introduce you to my darling daughter, Emily (aka Millie Moo). She is a little girl with a HUGE personality that bubbles over each and every day, resulting in some rather interesting situations.
For example just this afternoon Emily and I were colouring in her bedroom, I left her for two minutes to go check on the muffins I had in the oven. Upon my return to her bedroom I discover she has vanished. After a quick search she was discovered... in the bathroom putting her Daddy's jandels in the toilet. Lucky Daddy!
The bathroom is Emily's favourite place at the moment. She will grab any opportunity that presents itself to get into the bathroom and have a play. It is quite common to find her sitting on the bathroom floor surrounded by toilet paper, tampons, plasters or flourishing the toilet brush around like a wand. Luckily she also loves to wash her hands! With her love of the bathroom I thought why don't we try and start toilet training... Emily is more interested in bathing her potty than she is sitting on it. So that idea has been tossed out the window.
Another of Emily's favourite activities is posting things out the cat flap. If something goes missing in our house one of the first places to look is through the cat flap. Keys, dummies, spoons, toys, socks, shoes, cell phones, toothbrushes, crayons, tampons, toilet paper etc. Emily uses the cat flap more than the cats do.
Emily has quite a vocabulary for a wee toddler. She seems to be coming out with a new word almost every day. Today's word was "A a a a Choo!", she says this while pretending to sneeze. Her most used words are "Bye, Thank You, Bubba, Mama, Daddy, Zuri (our dog), Swing, Wet, Stuck, Oh No!, Shoes, Come and There you are!" She can count to 5 and can identify different farm animals and make their sounds. She also comes out with a few phrases that are not so innocent like "Oh Shit!", haven't the faintest idea where she got that one from (I say whistling innocently). Kids say the darnedest things don't they?
Well I better sign off here as Miss Millie Moo has just fallen asleep on the lounge floor, recharging her batteries for her next adventure no doubt.
